People are divided into two types. Some of them, seeing garbage on the street near their house, will lament for a long time about this. Others will take matters into their own hands and remove it. The latter includes the artist Felipe Carrelliturning abandoned on the streets of Sao Paulo cars into works of art.
It turns out that Brazil has a big problem with recycling old cars. And, instead of giving them away for scrap or just throwing them into a landfill, people leave their obsolete cars just on the streets of cities. A series of unusual street works by Felipe Carrelli is dedicated to this reality.
The artist explains his idea in the following way: “Last year, not far from my house, someone threw their old car on the street. The car was parked there for more than six months, and the homeless chose it as a place to spend the night. Not very happy with this neighborhood, local residents set fire to the car. But even in such a half-destroyed state, it remained standing on the street, and passers-by began to throw garbage there. Then I decided to turn this object into a work of art."
Felipe Carrelli painted this burnt-out car, giving it new life as a street art object. Before this transformation, it spoiled the street with its appearance, after that it began to decorate.
Seeing the positive effect of his work, Carrelli painted several more cars abandoned on the streets of Sao Paulo.
Carrelli called this project Ocupe Carrinho (Occupy Cars), either ridiculing or thus supporting the global anti-capitalist movement Occupy. The artist's parents living in the countryside decided to help their son by becoming a reliable supplier of potted plants with which Felipe decorates these painted cars.
Ocupe Carrinho is a great example of how even one person, with little effort, can make the world around him noticeably better. Who there still thinks that one in the field is not a warrior?
