Sculptor Alexandre Arrechea believes that there are "no barriers" for him: a new series of works by the Cuban surrealist is called No Limits … Arrechea plays with New York high-rise buildings like a child with chewing gum: twists, bends in all directions, and as a result presents from a completely unexpected side.
For a long time, the Cuban sculptor has been occupied with the problem of elasticity of objects that seem rigid. The previous cycle of Arrechei's works is called - Elasticity; cycle ideas No Limits became a logical continuation of the artist's early developments.
Residents of the American metropolis will be able to personally compare the majestic buildings, symbolizing American economic power, with their crazy little brothers. As part of the project of the gallery of contemporary art MagnanMetz twenty works from the cycle No Limits will be exhibited at New York Park Avenue from March 1, 2013.
Among the buildings that fell under the "distribution" - of course, the Empire State Building towers, as well as the MetLife Building, located between 44th and 45th streets in Manhattan. The unusual look of Cuban sculpture makes it possible to rethink the architectural heritage of the 20th century, and also works due to the "shock effect" - Americans will have to see familiar outlines from childhood, which are deformed in a completely unusual way.
One of the "capitals of the world" - modern New York - enchants and inspires not only tourists, but also many artists. Someone like Sean Kenny, builds skyscrapers from the LEGO constructor; a Matthew Richards views of the metropolis are encouraged to create melancholic autumn landscapes. It is thanks to people like Arrechea and his colleagues that the city retains its unique status: New York continues to excite the minds of people for many years.
