In science fiction films about life on other planets, completely extraordinary and unreal landscapes are painstakingly painted. However, it is no secret that the filmmakers often take their ideas about extraterrestrial space from completely existing places that can be seen on earth. Our selection contains 15 unusual landscapes that amaze visitors with their unreality.

Fly Geyser, Nevada, USA
Fly Geyser, Nevada, USA

Fly Geyser appeared thanks to human intervention: at the beginning of the 20th century, a well was needed in these places, and when a well was being drilled, a geothermal pocket with boiling water inside was accidentally punched. Half a century later, boiling water, enriched with minerals, began to break out to the surface and form such an unusual landscape. Now the height of the geyser walls is about one and a half meters, but they still continue to grow.

Such unusual mountains were formed from sand dunes, which for many years were pressed under their own weight and eventually turned into harder rocks, cut by winds and rains to a smooth undulating shape. However, the basis of the Wave is still sand, which means that this entire landscape is incredibly fragile. In this regard, people's access to it is very limited: only 20 permits are issued per day.

Lake Hillier (Pink Lake), Australia

This unusual lake is located on one of the islands in the southwest of Australia. It is quite large and is clearly visible to passengers of aircraft flying over this area. It is noteworthy that the pink color of the lake is constant and remains so, regardless of weather conditions or the season. However, if you take water from a reservoir into a container, then it will turn out to be the most ordinary transparent water. Despite the existence of various versions, the reliable reasons for such an unusual color of the lake have not yet been clarified.

The water of Kliluk Lake is highly saturated with various minerals: magnesium sulfate, calcium, sodium, titanium and silver. So it is not surprising that in summer, in hot weather, when the water begins to evaporate, bizarre spots form on the surface of the lake. Sometimes whole islands of minerals appear, along which you can get out to the middle of the lake. The indigenous population of the Okanagan Indians calls the lake Spotted. The Indians believe that the lake was created by the gods, as its waters have strong therapeutic and healing properties.

Many years ago, the legendary Silk Road passed here and life was in full swing, today this area is experiencing its rebirth thanks to thousands of tourists who come to see the unusual rainbow mountains. Danxia landscape, as this area is correctly called, was formed more than 24 million years ago. During this time, multi-colored sandstone, layering and interacting with other rocks, formed a bizarre wavy pattern on the mountains. It is believed that there are many more such artifacts in these mountains, so the popularity of the rainbow mountains could become even greater.
