The marriage of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip lasted over 70 years. As in any family, the queen and her consort had periods of joy and periods of grief, but they, in spite of everything, always stayed together. Elizabeth II always called the Duke of Edinburgh the main support in her life. But rumors about the prince's infidelity to his queen were often circulated in the press, and thanks to the creators of the Crown series, they started talking about a possible connection between Prince Philip and the Soviet ballerina Galina Ulanova.
Triumphant tour
Elizabeth II always accepted rumors about her husband's infidelity with truly royal calm. And each time she invariably denied the existence of any problems in her marriage. Perhaps the family had difficult times, but Prince Philip always remained a spouse for the queen, to whom she treated not only with love, but also with great respect.
However, after the release of The Crown, the life of the royal family again came under scrutiny. The audience was not at all embarrassed by the fact that the series "Crown" is fictional and not documentary. In the second season, a storyline appeared, highlighting the doubts of Queen Elizabeth II regarding her husband's loyalty.
As you know, in 1956 the Bolshoi Theater took its first tour in London. Galina Ulanova also took part in them, who just after this trip gained worldwide popularity. Then the ballerina danced Giselle and Juliet, and the press reported that among the grateful spectators there were many famous people, including Prince Philip.
Despite this, it is very difficult to imagine that Galina Ulanova could meet with the Duke of Edinburgh in an informal setting. The time of her rehearsals and performances was scheduled literally by the minute. Do not forget that Soviet artists did not have the opportunity to remain without the supervision of special agents who monitored all participants in a foreign trip.
In addition, Prince Philip himself had a very busy work schedule, practically excluding the possibility of finding time in it for meetings with the ballerina, and even more so, adjusting to her touring regime. It is also worth remembering that Galina Ulanova was 16 years older than the queen herself and was distinguished by a very closed character. She was far from everyone and did not immediately let them into her personal space.
Nevertheless, the creators of the series in the film made the queen suspect an affair between Prince Philip and Galina Ulanova.
Long journey
The fact of a five-month journey of Prince Philip in a men's company on the yacht "Britain" in the Commonwealth countries is well known. And then a very informative letter from the personal secretary of the Duke of Edinburgh, written to friends in the men's club, was published. Michael Parker shared his impressions of the voyage and reported that women of easy virtue were waiting for them in every port.
In addition, the author of the letter divorced his wife immediately upon returning from the tour. This caused the public to question the loyalty of the queen and the prince himself. The American press at the time wrote about the split in the royal family and about the secret visits of women on the yacht Britannia. Elizabeth II at that time even made an official statement about the absence of any problems in her marriage. And even went to Portugal to visit her husband.
The series shows a particularly tense moment when the queen accidentally finds a photograph of a Russian ballerina in her husband's personal belongings and ponders meaningfully. And after that, Elizabeth II is present at the ballet "Giselle" with Galina Ulanova in the title role, but at the same time she categorically refuses to communicate with the ballerina.
Actually
It seems that no one will ever know the whole truth about the family life of Queen Elizabeth II. She always knew how to "keep her face" and protect her family in all available ways. But like any person, the queen undoubtedly has the right to her own feelings, emotions and tears, even if no one sees them.
But the creators of the series "Crown" in order to maximize the interest of the audience, offered a very personal view of the relationship in the royal family. First of all, Elizabeth II is a queen, but she is also a woman, so she can afford to doubt and be jealous, like any other representative of the fair sex. True, usually her doubts and impulses of the soul remain out of sight of the public.
And yet, the fact of the connection between Prince Philip and Galina Ulanova looks, rather, a fantastic assumption.
When Galina Ulanova first danced the main role in the ballet “Romeo and Juliet” to the music of Sergei Prokofiev, no one could have imagined what the ballerina put into this role. It was at this time that the breakup of Galina Ulanova with one person whom she truly loved. In fact, the artist Nikolai Radlov became the only one to whom one of the most talented ballerinas of the Soviet Union gave her feelings.
