The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Museum is famous for having three concentration camps on its territory during the Second World War. For all its time of existence, this museum has not sent exhibits anywhere. Now, in order to remind society of the terrible times of the Holocaust, the Polish museum decided to send some of its exhibits on a world tour, because not everyone can come to Poland and visit the museum.
Exhibitions of artifacts from Auschwitz will be shown in American cities and cities in Europe. In total, 14 cities were selected where temporary exhibitions will be held. The museum has selected over 600 exhibits. These included the personal belongings of Soviet prisoners of war, Jews, Roma and Poles who were prisoners of concentration camps. Items belonging to SS officers and the Auschwitz administration were also selected. They will show at a temporary exhibition a freight car that was used by the Nazis to deliver prisoners to death camps and concentration camps. The first city where they decided to show these exhibits was Madrid. The exhibition will be held here under the title “Recently. Near . It will be possible to visit it until the end of 2018.
Piotr Tsivinsky, director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, said during his interview that not very good changes are taking place in the world at the moment, so that terrible events do not happen again, it is necessary to remind the public of what has already been experienced. The tragedy of the Holocaust and Auschwitz are prime examples of this.
He also mentioned that nothing beats a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Museum itself. But not everyone has such an opportunity. The main purpose of the traveling exhibition is to prevent new tragedies, the fault of which will be hatred, racism, anti-Semitism and xenophobia. Project manager Luis Ferreiro said that he would invite all visitors to the exhibition to get acquainted with the cruel crimes of Auschwitz.
A tour of North America and European countries for this temporary exhibit was organized thanks to the World Holocaust Remembrance Center, European and American Holocaust Centers and the American Holocaust Memorial Museum. Already now 1.5 million US dollars have been spent on organizing the traveling exhibition.
