The "Thor's Hammer", dating from around the 10th century, was found in Denmark. Scientists hope that this find will resolve all discussions related to this kind of amulets. After all, for a long time archaeologists could not understand what role the "hammer" played as an object, and what was its semantic load.

The Danish "hammer of Thor" was found quite recently on the island of Lolland in the village of Kobelev. Before that, such amulets were found throughout Northern Europe, but the copy from Lolland is special - it has a runic inscription on it. The lucky one was Torben Hristiansen, a “lover of detector search”. Christiansen immediately reported his find to one of the staff at the Lolland and Falster Museum.

The found "hammer" is made of bronze, and there are traces of tinning or silver on it, there are also remains of gold plating. On one side the amulet is decorated with an ornament, and on the other - a short runic inscription. It is believed that a talisman in the form of a hammer of a torus could traditionally be worn by Scandinavian women and men.

True, many researchers doubt that the amulet really depicts a hammer. Some believe that for a hammer it has a very long handle, while others point out that the striking part of the "hammer" is symmetrical.

Archaeologists hope the Danish find will dispel their doubts. The runic inscription on the "hammer of Thor" reads: "Hmar x is" - "This is the hammer." Archaeologists point out that the person who made the inscription was most likely illiterate, since one letter is missing from the word "hammer". Correct spelling of "Hamar".

So far, scientists believe the version that the found "Thor's hammer" is a souvenir of ancient times is more plausible. After all, they found it not far from the ancient workshop where amulets and jewelry were made. They came to such conclusions because at the place of the find many more different decorations were found, as well as forms that were used to make amulets.
