The popular American magazine Puck ("Naughty"), published from 1871 to 1918, was known primarily for its topical caricatures and amazing performance of caricatures. A special place among the satirical drawings is occupied by cartoons that ridicule Russia of that time and its imperial ambitions.
Among the cartoons, which were published on the pages of "Mischief," one can see satirical drawings on the theme of the participation of the Russian Empire in the Triple Intervention, the Russian-American "war of tariffs", the confrontation with England during the Great Game, and much more.
The cartoonists from Puck paid special attention to the reflection of the specific relations between the Russians and the French. In the drawings, the sides appear either as a fox and a bear, or as a giant and a dwarf, wandering from caricature to caricature and trying to deal with the English ubiquitous lion.
And the main leitmotif is mockery of the "cruel tsarism" that enforces bureaucracy and oppresses patriots. Watch and study.
