Mysterious half-smile, pearls in hair, royal restraint and royal posture - this is how fans remember Valentina Tolkunov … On July 12, the singer would have turned 70 years old, but in 2010 she was gone. Until the last days, she did not admit that she was seriously ill, and at her last concert she smiled with the same smile for which she was called the "Russian Mona Lisa".
Valentina Tolkunova sang from childhood - in the choir, in the ensemble of the Central House of Children of Railway Workers, while studying at the Music College named after Gnesins. She began her career in the VIO-66 jazz orchestra under the direction of Yuri Saulsky, who became her husband. She did not like to talk about her problems, and only after Saulsky's death confessed: “When I got married, I thought that this is the only man with whom I will be all my life. But it didn't work out that way. He was infatuated with an actress. We had to leave."
No one had any idea that the singer was in a state of deep depression - immediately after the divorce, she re-entered the stage, and in 1973 she became the soloist of the Mosconcert. She was called "the crystal voice of the Soviet stage", millions of listeners knew by heart the words of the songs "Snub-noses", "I cannot do otherwise", "If there was no winter", etc.
At the age of 28, Tolkunova married a second time - to international journalist Yuri Paporov. However, he was forced to be away from his family for years, on long business trips abroad. That at this time Valentina met her love, she was also silent for a long time. Both were not free, and the relationship had to be hidden. She remained with him until the end of his days, until he died of cancer.
The same illness killed Valentina Tolkunova. After 12 years of absence, her husband Yuri Paporov returned, and Tolkunova decided to stay with him. In recent years, they supported each other in the most difficult situations: after a car accident, Yuri began to lose his sight and hearing, and Valentina was diagnosed with a terrible diagnosis - cancer.
To cope with all life's difficulties, her fighting character and unfeminine stamina helped her - with all the external femininity and tenderness. When doctors after the operation recommended that she refrain from exertion for some time, she resumed concert activities after a few days, combining performances with chemotherapy courses. The singer said: "I try to travel with concerts to different parts of our country in order to have time to give people my heart, my songs."
Unfortunately, the treatment did not give the desired results - the disease progressed. On February 16, 2010, the singer became ill during a concert in Mogilev, she began to forget the words, coordination of movements was disturbed, but she did not want to leave the stage. Tolkunova worked the allotted time, and after the concert she was taken by an ambulance. This performance was the last in her life. She passed away on March 22, 2010 at the age of 63.
It is difficult to list all the merits and regalia of Valentina Tolkunova: she became the laureate of the Song of the Year television competition 23 times, released 12 records, her repertoire consisted of more than 300 songs, in 1979 she was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR, in 1987 - People's Artist …
And one of the first legends of the Soviet stage was an equally talented artist Claudia Shulzhenko: folk idol with a modest blue handkerchief
