Recreation center Wandawega Lake Resort - an amazing place where you can spend an unforgettable weekend. Its owners are the married couple Teresa Surratt and David Hernandez. In 2004, they purchased an abandoned camp, hoping to restore old cottages, but, in addition, they managed to create a real eco-oasis, building a unique three-story house here on the branches of a giant tree.

The tree house was built in memory of Teresa's father, Tom, who was actively involved in the reconstruction of the camp. A fatal illness prevented the man from completing the project, and soon after his death it became clear that the old elm, a kind of symbol of the camp, also suffers from the so-called "Dutch disease". The couple treasured the tree so much that they could not cut down the doomed giant. Its trunk remained strong enough, so it was decided to cut down only the branches.

An original house was built around the tree, which became a symbol of unquenchable love for his father. The trunk of an old elm tree runs through the entire house, from the hole in the floor to the roof on the third floor. To create a unique interior, both the surviving branches and the old furniture that were preserved in the camp were used. Of particular note is the original chandelier made from the antlers found in the barn, as well as the stumps used as bedside tables.

The home improvement was completed in 2011 and the costs were minimal. The couple were happy to be helped by their designer friends. There are many unusual things in the house, for example, lamps on the veranda made of ordinary cans, decorative pillowcases from old flour sacks, and there are also antique furniture, bought inexpensively at sales and auctions. In a word, the Wandawega recreation center is a wonderful place for a family or romantic getaway, where you can enjoy nature and admire the cozy interior that literally radiates warmth.
