An unusual sporting event takes place annually in Harrogate (Great Britain). Over 3,000 rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice and decorative rats compete in running and jumping. Rabbit lovers from Sweden to Yorkshire bring their pets to the Rabbit Grand National competition. Everything happens as in a real Olympiad: participants fight for prizes, and they are judged by competent judges.
For the second year in a row, the rabbit races are held in England. This action was an excellent addition to the traditional rodent competition, which has been held since 1921 in another English town of Burgess Hill (The Burgess Premier Small Animal Show). The rabbit competition program is not easy: fluffy "sportsmen" need to overcome 12 obstacles for a while, each of which sometimes reaches a meter in height. While jumping, animals demonstrate agility and grace.
The participants of the Olympiad set real records in the struggle for the championship. For example, the world record for high jump was set by the rabbit Tosen from Denmark (1997). This dodger has overcome the meter bar! The true long jump master, Yabo rabbit, turned out to be his fellow countryman. In 1999, he managed to jump to the three-meter mark!
If the reserved Englishmen prefer only to admire the achievements of their pets, then the funny Japanese are not averse to taking part in the competitions themselves! Perhaps that is why they choose larger animals. Instead of rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs, there are real pigs, which local extreme sportsmen use as first-class horses!
