Fans of the thrill and real extreme will not leave indifferent the Royal Trail (El Caminito del Rey), which is rightfully considered one of the most dangerous in the world. It is located in a gorge in southern Spain near the village of Álora. The trail was opened in 1921, and the Spanish king Alfonso XIII was the first to walk along it. Today, anyone can follow the royal path, but the path is no longer as safe as it once was.
The construction of the footpath began in 1901, when it became necessary to establish communication between the two hydroelectric power plants located at the Paso and Gaitanejo waterfalls. 90 years later, the once safe trail has become a real challenge for daredevils. It is located at a height of 100 m above a mountain river, the width of the passage is no more than one meter. In some places the trail breaks off, as many concrete structures have been destroyed over the years. There is no need to talk about such luxury as railings, they are found sporadically and by no means in the most dangerous places.
The Royal Trail will be rightfully appreciated by professional tourists who want to test their strengths at dizzying heights. Despite the fact that the length of the trail is no more than three kilometers, there are a lot of local obstacles on it. It is definitely not worth going here without special equipment!
In 2000, the Royal Trail was officially closed to tourists due to several fatal accidents. However, to this day, some tourists manage to get around the prohibitions and go through this intricate path! Local authorities are planning to improve the gorge; 8, 3 million euros have already been allocated for this. Within three years, a modern trail with handrails, safety barriers and good lighting will be built here!
And for those who want to walk over the edge of the abyss, but at the same time feel completely safe, the dizzying glass bridge on Tianmen Mountain in China will do!
