Let's talk again about architecture as frozen music. This seemingly hackneyed statement plays with new and new colors and forms. For example, architectural installation Wastelandscape, which appeared recently in the courtyard of the Parisian gallery Centquatre. This is frozen music in all its glory!
Over the past decade, CDs have gone from being the main storage medium to something obsolete, unnecessary, inconvenient and meaningless. And they are now used no longer for their intended purpose, but for all sorts of other needs. For example, to create works of art. Consider the Anti-Piracy CD Art project, the CD sculptures by George Radebaugh, or even the CD Sea by Bruce Munro.
The Wastelandscape installation, now presented at the Centquatre cultural center in Paris, most closely resembles the disc sea mentioned above. Moreover, it even echoes in the creation of Bruce Munroe in meaning.
This architectural installation was designed by artists Elise Morin and Clémence Eliard. They decided to convert sixty-five thousand old CDs into five hundred square meters of the undulating surface of the Wastelandscape installation.
The main message of this extraordinary piece of art is the desire to preserve nature and conserve natural resources. After all, CDs are made of polycarbonates - oil refined products. And the installation Wastelandscape itself, as conceived by its authors, is like a large oil slick on the surface of the sea, iridescent in iridescent colors.
It is clear that Alice Maureen and Clemens Elyar strongly support and welcome the further development of digital technologies, which makes it possible to get rid of such rudiments of the past harmful to the planet as CDs, floppy disks and other plastic devices produced in huge quantities!
The rainbow installation Wastelandscape will be on display at the Parisian Centquatre until September 10 this year.
