God, there are so many serious guys among photographers who shoot pretentious soulful portraits or fashion photos, where there is not a single natural detail. Matt Hoyle is not one of those. Yes, he is also an ordinary portrait photographer, but there is not a single ordinary, boring face among his works. Perhaps this is why celebrities love him so much, from Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Tom Selleck.
Matt Hoyle, known for his portraits that tell stories (and these are not empty words - some of his works are dedicated to the inhabitants of fictional cities, who, in fact, are making the history of these cities) to the whole world, seems to confirm the phrase “ People are strange ”From a famous song. And, regardless of how we translate the word "strange" - "strange" or "alien", it will be true. Since Matt Hoyle has worked with completely different people throughout his career, many of whom simply could not understand each other.
Matt has worked with both ordinary people and stars - he has a bunch of photographs of movie stars on his website, for example, Jason Schwartzman, Tom Selleck, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. But many love him more for the Barnumville project, which features portraits of the inhabitants of a fictional city, presumably located in Florida in the forties. It is based on the real town of Gibsonton, really located in this state. Circus performers often wait out the winter there.
Besides Barnumville, Matt Hoyle has plenty of projects. For example, he does a lot advertising photos … He's totally into the advertising business, ever since winning numerous awards as the best creative director. As a photographer, he also earned a bunch of awards, including one of the most prestigious - the Golden Lion of the Cannes festival. He also has several conceptual photo projects, for example, "fairy tales" and "cinemaricana" - the latter is dedicated to scenes from films.
Matt's works are so high quality that it seems that he has no equal in portraits, at least for ordinary people. And yet a few photographers who could compete with him do come to mind. For example, Erik Lafforgue and his world in faces - a photo cycle in which portraits of ordinary people from all over the world are collected, or amazing portraits of Piet Flour shooting everyone in a row. Among Matt Hoyle's clients are well-known TV channels and film companies such as CBS, Warner Bros, Comedy Central, Columbia Records, Discovery Channel, as well as New York Mag, Entertainment Weekly, Esquire, Billboard, Rolling Stone. And among the companies for which he did advertising photos, names such as Epson, BMW, Jim Beam, Cadbury, Procter & Gamble and many others appear.
