The Forgotten World of Jenny-Lynn Pasquet: Melancholic Dreams
The Forgotten World of Jenny-Lynn Pasquet: Melancholic Dreams

There is always a place in life dream - but this dream is not always bright and bravura. The mood that permeates the forgotten world in the spiritualized and strange paintings of the artist Jenny-Lynn Pasquet - melancholic pensiveness, mysterious instability and elusive touchingness … They give the paintings originality and charm.

Jenny-Lynn Pasquet lives in an American city Portland … She is professionally engaged in illustration (in particular, she illustrates the work of an ambient musician Eluvium) - and, of course, painting. The largest series of her works is called " Obsolete world"- which can be translated as "outdated" or forgotten world … Or the "useless" world. In fact, her work is not mainstream, it is even somewhat frightening at first glance: a gloomy sky, tinged with melancholy, and even melancholy. Strange figures, usually a little fluffy (reminiscent of the waves of hair in Dan May's dreamy paintings - in general, the works of May and Pasquet are somewhat similar). Strange, extremely symbolic plots.

And yet it is a dream. Let's give the floor to the artist herself: “This world is hidden somewhere behind ours. Old worldmade of endless fields, distant hills and time-worn cliffs. The place where the sun stopped forever. A country inhabited by extinct slow-moving monsters and graceful delicate-faced creatures of all shapes and sizes. They gracefully balance between hope and despair … Time stops here to allow the inhabitants of this world to gaze at the heavens. And always look for a place from which to watch their world pass them by."

However, despite their "hopelessness in hope," residents Forgotten world strive upward: thin torsos and enlarged heads make them look like balloons, which with all their might reach the sky. And their eerie appearance on closer examination turns out to be rather touchingly defenseless - even among the "slow monsters".

The work of Jenny-Lynn Pasquet, despite her melancholy, is very successful: she often arranges exhibitions, articles about her are written in well-known magazines. This means that humanity still needs a dream - and huge forgotten world forgotten not so hopelessly.
