When in 1974 Yevgeny Matveyev's film "Earthly Love" was released on the screens of cinemas, he immediately became the leader of the film distribution, and in a year it was watched by more than 50 million viewers. Inspired, Matveyev decided to shoot a sequel, and according to his idea, a song performed by Anna German was supposed to sound in the film.

The Polish singer was very popular in the USSR at that time. Tickets for Herman's performances were sold out in a matter of days, and during the concerts people stood right in the aisles. Such famous Soviet composers as Matvey Blanter, Alexandra Pakhmutova, Oskar Feltsman, Vladimir Shainsky and many others worked with Anna German. The records were sold in millions of copies. But at the same time, no one had any idea that every concert is given to the singer with inhuman efforts, and behind the scenes she literally faints.

Evgeny Matveev recalled: "" … the song "Echo of Love" was not created according to well-known creative canons. Oddly enough, but first of all a voice was born. nuances of complex love. And it was the voice of Anna German. And when I shared this thought with the poet Robert Rozhdestvensky, composer Evgeny Ptichkin and Pyotr Proskurin, the author of the novel "Fate", on which I shot the film, they were all delighted. We are not yet they knew the words, did not know the music yet, they knew only one thing: Anna should sing. Her voice is able to convey all the subtleties of this amazing human feeling - the feeling of love. I must say, the song was written easily by both the poet and the composer. And when we sent a telegram to Anna German in Warsaw with a request to consent to sing in our film, in an instant we received a positive answer. We immediately sent her notes, naturally, fearing: what if she won’t like it? And here is the telegram: "The tonality is such and such … I'm flying out."

In 1977 Anna German flew to Moscow and recorded a song with a symphony orchestra without rehearsals. She flew in, having learned to walk again, broken in a terrible accident, after a difficult birth and already knowing about her incurable sentence - "cancer". But she had a passionate desire to sing.

According to Matveyev's recollections, the song had to be recorded several times, because as soon as Anna entered, the orchestra began to play out of tune. Matveyev did not immediately realize what was the matter. And then his heart sank in pain: the cellists and violinists, looking at the singer, who was losing strength in front of her eyes, began to cry softly. Anna German sang as if she were saying goodbye to life.

Video from the 1970s. Anna German sings the song "Echo of Love" on Moscow television. Music - E. Ptichkin, lyrics - R. Rozhdestvensky.

Fate prepared the singer not only the boundless love of the audience, but also inhuman trials. The tragic and vivid fate of Anna German will not leave anyone indifferent.
