Herluf Bidstrup - Danish cartoonist. Even 35 years ago, his name was known far beyond the borders of the country. He gained particular fame in the Soviet Union. His stories in pictures were sold out in thousands of copies. Simple plots and subtle humor were clear to everyone, regardless of nationality.
As the artist himself noted, he painted as long as he could remember. As a child, Herluf did not understand why adults made such fun of his drawings. Later it became clear that all his creations were real caricatures. The artist said:. It was this genre of fine art that became defining in his work.
Herluf Bidstrup was born in Berlin in 1912. Two years later, his family moved to Denmark, where his father was from. The future cartoonist graduated from the Copenhagen Academy of Arts. During World War II, the young talent actively drew cartoons of the German occupiers and submitted them for printing to underground newspapers. After 1945, Herluf Bidstrup (at that time already a committed communist) began working for the newspaper Land og Volk ("Land and People").
Over time, Bidstrup released several albums with cartoons. It was mainly a satire on capitalist society. The Dane so cleverly portrayed the "vices of society in the decaying West" that he gained popularity in the Soviet Union.
The artist drew travel notes, cartoons on acute political themes, everyday scenes. Herluf Bidstrup is most famous for his mini-comics. These stories in pictures are clear to everyone without words, regardless of nationality:
The artist passed away at the age of 76. After himself, he left more than five thousand works.
Spanish artist Luis Quiles draws cartoons. The darkest sides of modern society become the subjects of his works, be it violence, censorship, corruption.

Ekaterina Furtseva, who was called the "Commander-in-Chief of Fine Arts" and "Catherine the Great" in the sphere of culture, was one of the most controversial figures in Soviet politics: those to whom she was supportive characterized her as a just and noble person, and those who she was out of favor, considered cruel and vindictive. For 14 years she was the Minister of Culture of the USSR, and during this period many artists who were on her black list said that she broke their fates
What paintings of Russian classics were banned from showing, and for what reason they fell out of favor with the censors
We are used to associating censorship bans with forbidden books or films. But even in such a seemingly harmless genre of art as painting, artists could go against the ideological attitudes of the authorities, which is why certain paintings were not accepted for display at public exhibitions. Several such stories happened in the Russian Empire, and they are associated not with some little-known artists, but with generally recognized masters of the brush
How did the first lotteries appear, why they were popular in ancient Rome and fell out of favor with Catherine II
Excitement in human nature. Otherwise, it would be difficult to explain why lotteries, having appeared in ancient times, still exist today, bringing fabulous income to their creators. As time went on, lotteries developed, and various curiosities often happened in this field.
