As a rule, the presence of awards for artists not only confirms their talent, but also flatters their vanity. And they are looking forward to receiving the next title, they are proud of it. But among many people there are those who consider it impossible for themselves to receive any awards from the state. Some give up titles out of modesty, while for others the rejection of a title or award becomes a matter of honor or adherence to their own principles.
Veniamin Smekhov
It seems that this actor in life is similar to one of his heroes: the closed and noble Athos, for whom honor is not just a word. Veniamin Smekhov has repeatedly mentioned in his interviews that Alexander Pushkin has never been a member of the Writers' Union. And there is no need to even talk about the talent of Vladimir Vysotsky and the truly popular love for this actor. Although he never had a special title.
When Veniamin Smekhov was still serving at the Taganka Theater, all members of the troupe were basically not allowed to receive titles. After the expulsion of the artistic director Yuri Lyubimov abroad, almost all the theater actors fell into disgrace, and no one would even dare to start a speech about their awarding.
Years later, Veniamin Smekhov was actually forced to receive the title, for the simple reason that many young actors already had regalia and titles, but a truly popular favorite did not. But then he had already formed his own conviction that he did not need "tsatzki". In addition, he was impressed by the act of his colleagues, Mikhail Ulyanov and Kirill Lavrov, who even stopped signing with the list of regalia. And the opportunity to "buy" the title too devalued the once very significant award. Even on the eve of his 70th birthday, the actor's wife had to explain to the “important person” that the title would not please Benjamin Smekhov, but offend.
Dmitry Nagiyev
He acts in films, broadcasts and shows, goes on stage and works on the radio. Dmitry Nagiyev became known at the very beginning of his career, and today the list of his works in theater, cinema and television looks truly impressive. But he still has no titles.
Surprisingly, Dmitry Nagiyev himself considers himself unworthy of awards, because, in his opinion, he does not do anything outstanding and special, he just tries to do his job with high quality. That is why at one time he refused the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
Leonid Yarmolnik
The actor is incredibly proud that he studied his profession at the Taganka Theater with Vladimir Vysotsky himself, with whom he had the opportunity to work on the same stage for four years and even play his roles. He was one of the most popular and beloved actors. But at the same time, he was constantly in disgrace, his merits were not officially recognized.
Leonid Yarmolnik himself was offered the title of Honored Artist on the eve of his 40th birthday. Yarmolnik's wife Oksana then told him not to come home after receiving. Of course, it was a joke, but Leonid Isaakovich himself was not even going to add any other regalia to his name. After 10 years, he just as calmly renounced the title of People's. In his opinion, the actor should be known simply by name.
Alexey Devotchenko
The actor received the title of Honored Artist in 2006, before that he became twice laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation, in 1999 and 2003. But in 2011, on his blog page, he publicly announced that he categorically refused the title of Honored and the awards. The reason for this statement was disagreement with the policies pursued by the Russian government. Alexey Devotchenko was an active member of the United Civil Front and constantly took part in anti-government events and actions.
In November 2014, the actor, who starred in more than 60 films and TV series, was found without signs of life in a rented apartment. Some colleagues of Alexei Devotchenko claimed that the actor was killed, but the official version says that alcohol, taken together with tranquilizers, ruined him.
Victor Mamaev
The actor and director starred in many films, but also became famous as a co-director of the opening and closing of the 1980 Olympics, which took place in Moscow. He was one of those thanks to whom the Olympic Bear soared skyward at the closing ceremony. The actor had about 50 works in films and many roles in the theater. He himself graduated from the Higher Directing Courses and directed 47 performances.
The title of People's Artist of the Soviet Union Viktor Mamaev was awarded in the 1990s, but the actor refused to receive it, arguing that such a country no longer exists. Unfortunately, Viktor Mamaev himself is no longer there, who died in 2013 from cancer.
There are actors who have enjoyed well-deserved popularity for many years, they have starred a lot, played many roles in the theater. Their faces did not leave the screens, magazines with photographs of artists were instantly sold out, and directors bombarded them with new proposals. Nevertheless, they never received the most important title - People's Artist of the USSR.
