Morgan Freeman, who appears in the most successful film and television projects, talks about string theory and dark matter in his television series, is in itself an integral part of the modern world. And somehow the fact that he was born only two years later than the long-gone legend, the king of rock and roll Elvis Presley, in the same state of Tennessee, where only the simplest and lowest-paid professions were prepared for a black boy … Freeman's life story is, first of all, the story of a man who knew how to dream correctly.
The first decades of the road to a dream
He was born on June 1, 1937 in the American South. Mother, Mamie Edna, was a cleaner, father, Morgan Portfield Freeman, worked as a hairdresser. Morgan, along with his brothers and sisters, was raised mainly by his mother and grandmother - the very first and most strict, as Freeman would later tell, teachers. He often ran to the cinema and from childhood dreamed of an acting career. At the age of nine, Morgan performed his first role in a school play, inspired not only by his own dreams, but also by the support of his English teacher, Leora Williams. At twelve, Freeman took part in a radio show.
The family moved frequently, eventually ending up in Chicago, Illinois. When Freeman was eighteen, he joined the US Air Force - pursuing another of his dreams - of flying. True, then it did not come true, he served as a mechanic - but after a few decades Freeman will still receive a pilot's license and buy his own plane, and then two more. After completing his military service, Freeman left for Los Angeles, where he performed college paperwork. In this city, he took acting classes, and in San Francisco in the early sixties he studied dance. In 1964, he performed in dance shows at the World's Fair in New York, where he later began auditioning for roles in Broadway plays and cameo roles in films.
Recognition and success
In the early seventies, Freeman managed to get a role in the television series "Electric Company", and in 1971 he starred in the movie "Who Said I Can't Walk the Rainbow." into the world of cinema, had to start early on his triumphant ascent to the heights of the film industry. But skin color and the seventies did not at all contribute to the development of the actor's career, Freeman had to take on roles in television series and wait for offers from filmmakers.
In 1980, he appeared in the next movie, Brubaker, and seven years later in Street Boy, receiving an Oscar nomination for his supporting role. Now Morgan Freeman could be considered a star, and each new project only added to his popularity, bringing new nominations and awards, and in addition - proposals from the best Hollywood directors.
In 1994, he starred in one of the best movie audiences of all time, The Shawshank Redemption. For his role in it, he was again nominated for an Oscar. Next year - "Seven" with Brad Pitt, then - "Bruce Almighty". And then - "Million Dollar Baby", a film after which Freeman will finally become an Oscar winner, and many other film projects, in almost all of which the actor seems to convey to the audience some kind of higher wisdom - such is Freeman's image.
He himself, however, admits that he has no illusions about the influence of cinema on the worldview of those who watch it: while a person watches the hero, he agrees with him, and after leaving the cinema, he continues to live his life with his convictions.
This image of a "god", an elder, a preacher, is formed by itself - from the calm confidence with which Freeman looks at the interlocutor, invariable politeness and friendly interest in him. The actor is not inclined to long conversations, especially about himself, in interviews he is rather laconic - the more weight is given to each thought expressed aloud, especially since Freeman's voice is unique - and this is constantly used by producers when scoring television shows. The actor himself claims that he considers himself the best singer - "in the shower and in the car."
Morgan Freeman and his new dreams
Now the actor is eighty-two, and he is clearly not going to retire. In May 2019, another film with the participation of Morgan Freeman was released - "Poisonous Rose". “A good story and an interesting character” - this is his main criterion when choosing the next project - with some discount, of course, for age.
In addition to cinema, Freeman implements other projects, including his production work - the series Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman and Morgan Freeman. Stories about God”. In the latter, he made an attempt to get closer to the true essence of different religions that have so much in common - whether they are practiced in the Western world or in a small Indian village. At the same time, Freeman is also looking for answers to his questions - that's why his projects turn out to be so successful - because they feel his own interest, passion, something that brings meaning to work and life.
Morgan Freeman was married four times and has four children - two sons and two daughters. Not so long ago, he sailed and flew a lot, now, due to his age, he spends more and more time reading, not forgetting to be interested in new technologies and innovations. Having passed a long difficult path in the profession, having reached, probably, the maximum heights that were available to a black boy from the southern states, he is sure: "".
In one of his films - "Unconquered" - Freeman played the role of Nelson Mandela, for the performance of which he was again nominated for an Oscar.
