"The East is a delicate matter …" This catch phrase has taken root in everyday life, and the film "White sun of desert" to this day, it has not lost its popularity, although it came out on the screens of cinemas back in 1970. This tape had a difficult fate, the film was shot for a long time, and then they did not want to release it. The story of the adventures of Comrade Sukhov was saved by Brezhnev's decision, the secretary general personally approved the first "Eastern" in the USSR.

The shooting of the film "White Sun of the Desert" was difficult, it seemed that the tape was not destined to be released at all. We faced the first difficulties already at the stage of script writing. It was assumed that Konchalovsky and Gorenshtein would do it, but the script they wrote did not impress Mosfilm critics at all. The second attempt was made by Valentin Yezhov, and he chose the “expert” on oriental topics Rustam Ibragimbekov as his advisor. True, later it turned out that Rustam knew about the mysterious East no more than Yezhov and had never been to Asian countries, so everything that we see on the screen is pure improvisation.

The only one who agreed to shoot the film was the disgraced director Vladimir Motyl. His paintings were forbidden one after another, and he simply did not have the opportunity to sort through the ribbons. It was he who was entrusted with the difficult shooting. At that time, few believed in the success of the event.

During the filming, a lot of events happened that made the group really excited. It all started with the theft of props and fake weapons: the Makhachkala mafia robbed the film crew to the bone on the very first day of arrival. In order to somehow get out of the situation and start filming, it was decided to find the main mafioso and offer him a cameo role in the film in exchange for returning the much-needed props.

"White Sun of the Desert" became the record holder for the number of re-shot scenes. So, at first, it was necessary to reshoot the episodes with the main character Sukhov, since he was originally played by Georgy Yumatov, but the actor suffered in one of the brawls in the first week, and he had to be replaced by Anatoly Kuznetsov. The actor did an excellent job of the role.

The scene with Said, who was buried in the sand, was not filmed from the first take. Actor Spartak Mishulin had to build a special chamber made of wooden planks to protect his body from overheating. The shooting of the episode went well, only now the film turned out to be defective and all the work had to start in the second round.

At the filming stage, the picture was rejected, Motyl was suspended for 4 months from the work process. Due to the fact that there were no people willing to finish the picture, it was decided to allow Motyl to return to filming. Edits were made by censors constantly, the edited picture was also received with hostility, and if it had not once caught the eye of Brezhnev, then it is not known how many years the Soviet viewers would not have seen this masterpiece.

One of the favorite heroes of the film "White Sun of the Desert" - customs officer Vereshchagin … The life story of Mikhail Pospelov, who became his prototype, is no less fascinating than the fate of a movie character.
