The Sydney Opera House was built in 1973 and since then has become a hallmark not only of his hometown, but also of Australia as a whole. And it is he who attracts most of all attention during the Vivid Sydney festival: for three and a half weeks, the white "sails" of the theater serve as a kind of "canvas" for a bright performance.
Vivid Sydney is a Sydney festival that runs from May 27 to June 21 and features massive light installations, musical performances and creative ideas that make Sydney the premier center for creativity in the Asia-Pacific region. One of the most anticipated and spectacular events of the festival is light installations projected onto the building of the opera house at night. In 2010, these installations were designed by Laurie Anderson.
The huge images projected onto the building show parts of flowers, trees, animal skins, fireworks, and paper doll clothes. Some installations literally explode with bright colors, others are calmer, but in any case it is an unforgettable sight. According to the organizers, during the festival, the sails of the opera house turn into the world's largest work of art located in the harbor.
Laura Anderson is an American musician and author of experimental performances. She has been creative since the 1960s, and recently The Los Angeles Times named Laura "the most valuable multimedia artist of our time."
