One art project spawns another: this is exactly what happened to artists By Philip Worthington and Joseph Holmes … The first organized a kind of happening in the New York Museum MoMA - visitors were offered to play around in front of a special screen, which "filmed" their movements and "presented" the painted monsters. The second was interested in the visitors themselves - and so an extravagant photo cycle with people in strange poses was born.
Holmes' photo project is called Monsters - which is close to the original title of Worthington's installation (Shadow monsters). You can admire the fruits of Worthington's labors in a YouTube promo video.
Worthington's goal was to dehumanize as much as possible those who agreed to participate in the project: with the help of light projection and image and sound processing, the grimacing people turned into strange cartoon animals. Holmes decided that it was even more interesting to look at the people themselves, twitching like puppets.
According to the photographer, the Monsters project allows you to see people without the "masks" - self-confidence, caution, respectability - inherent in them in real life. In front of the screen, MoMA visitors happily danced, made strange somersaults and even kissed each other - there was no point in holding back, since they thought they were just helping in drawing cartoon animals.
Projects Shadow monsters and Monsters - just a small fraction of the art activity of one of the world centers of contemporary art, the New York Museum MoMA.
