The old organ grinder Carlo cut out his fidgety son from a log so that he would have someone to while away the time without suffering from loneliness. At the Italian sculptor Bruno Walpoth a big family, but he, nevertheless, also "revives" the tree, carving sculptures of people from logs, striking in their anatomical correctness. Therefore, Walpot is called the modern Pope Carlo, and at exhibitions his realistic wooden sculptures always crowded. To further enhance the effect of the "living sculpture", men and women, boys and girls are carved in life-size wood, and their faces are covered with realistic expressions - thoughtfulness, serenity, quiet joy or light sadness. In addition, each wooden person receives a name from the "parent", as befits a "newborn". But the author does not give clothes to everyone, and even then - wooden.
For Bruno Walpot, every wooden person is a beloved child, because the sculptor works on his image for long hours, days and even weeks, carefully working out every muscle, every fold on the body in order to achieve such stunning realism. However, he really "copied" some sculptures from his own children. A very curious way to preserve the wonderful moments of life for which people usually use a camera. But the sculptor believes that preserving the memories of how funny his children were is best in three-dimensional form. Childhood will not last forever, photography also has expiration dates, but a sculpture made of wood will remain a pleasant greeting from the past for many generations of the Walpot family.
For his work, Bruno Walpot prefers to use linden and walnut wood, and not only because it is easy to process. The color of this wood is closest to the color of human skin, and since wood is a living and warm material, the sculpture will be just as warm, lively and pleasant to the touch. Some visitors to Bruno Walpott's exhibits are even intimidated by this effect. Just look, one of the wooden people will open their eyes, yawn, stretch, and go to have a coffee with a croissant in the nearest cafe around the corner of the art gallery …
