Scandals in the fashion world that one designer stole an idea from another is not uncommon. After all, the line between inspiration and plagiarism can indeed be quite thin. However, if such theft of images can still be forgiven for less eminent brands, then when it comes to leading clothing labels, the scandals are really deafening. So, the other day a young designer from London accused Moschino of "stolen" her collection, and the photographs really speak for themselves.
Edda Gimnes from London posted a post about her sad situation on her Facebook page. According to her, the latest Moschino collection is a brazen replica of her own 2016-2017 collection. Images were taken without asking. And, which makes the situation even more dramatic, Edda says that about a year ago, representatives of Moschino did come to her studio, and she showed them her work, that the truth was not about any collaboration or the use of her images at that time.
Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott immediately reacted to Edda's post on his Instagram and said that he did not use the images of the Edda collection, but took his own images from the previous Moschino collection as a basis.
“I understand that we are in an industry where everyone is inspired by the work of their colleagues from the environment. It is said that imitation is the best version of praise. But it breaks my heart to see how after our meeting in New York with the Moschino representatives last November, when I showed them absolutely ALL of my work and my original sketches and ideas … seeing the last Moschino show yesterday was incredibly sad and painful. When you are a young budding designer, you are an easy victim, and apparently they thought it would go unnoticed. I will try to prevent this from happening! Look at these photos for yourself and decide for yourself!"
However, this is not the first scandal in the fashion world this year. Earlier this summer, Dior was accused of blatantly plagiarizing national clothes from Romania - read about this incident in our article "How Dior Stole Ideas".
