The Turkish sculptor Yasam Sasmazer was born, studied fine arts and, in general, spent his entire life in Istanbul. But the 31-year-old master is holding an exhibition of contemporary sculpture "Illuminated Darkness" in London. The exposition takes place in twilight. Trying to shed light on the sculptures of children, the spotlights attached to each work generate huge shadows. Like other modern sculpture - a man and his Shadow Hand of Floro, the creations of Yasam Sasmazer tell about the dark side, which, according to the author, even the youngest creatures have.
Modern sculptures by a Turkish author are made of bronze and wood. Yasam Sasmazer is interested in childhood emotions: from joy to anger. And even more - then, each of these feelings has, so to speak, its own sediment that falls on the wall in the form of a shadow. Moreover, the sculptures say that darkness accompanies not only negative, but also positive emotions.
Yasam Sasmazer expresses the Jungian concept of the Shadow in the words: “The Shadow is darkness in the secret of our souls, a corner that must be horrified. The shadow is all that we are, but from which we would like to disown."
