10 years ago, a Chinese artist Wen Fuliang was an unknown woodcarver who decorated furniture, interior items, figurines and souvenirs with beautiful patterns. Today he is a respected maestro, celebrity and even a local landmark of Shanxi province, where he lives and works. His hobby is carving sculptures from empty eggshell, successfully turned into a profession after the artist lost his job as a woodcarver. As they say, there would be no happiness, but misfortune helped. Chicken, goose, duck, and sometimes ostrich eggs in the skilled hands of Wen Fuliang are covered with delicate, filigree patterns, similar to crocheted napkins by skilled craftswomen. The artist is forced to strictly control himself emotionally, to relax as much as possible before work and not be distracted by anything. One awkward movement - and the shell will crack, and hours of work will go down the drain. Probably, the lessons of meditation and self-control, common on the territory of the eastern states, do not pass without leaving a trace and give their results.
The artist carves zodiacs and horoscopes, hieroglyphs, runes and symbols on the eggs. In his hands, empty eggs become amulets and amulets, as well as expensive souvenirs with images of picturesque Chinese landscapes, memorable places, beautiful pagodas, lanterns, and plants.
Having got his hand in creating patterns for wood surfaces, the former woodcarver applies these skills to his current hobby job. He uses the finest drills covered with diamond powder, as well as the tools that jewelers use to see the smallest details of the future design on the eggshell. In order not to be mistaken, the artist draws out the outlines of the future pattern with a pencil, and then draws them with tools, turning an empty egg into an openwork sculpture of the finest, most accurate handwork. Not surprisingly, ornate egg figurines are so popular with Shanxi residents and tourists alike.
