Historically, the best and most creative designers and artists in the world work on the creation of Olympic symbols and attributes. This was once again proved by the recently concluded competition. Design of the Year award 2012 … One of its winners was a British studio Barber Osgerbywho developed the design Olympic torch.
London is preparing with might and main for the Olympic Games, which will begin in less than three months. For example, the British capital is conducting an information campaign Get ahead of the Games, the purpose of which is to inform the guests of the city and its residents about the operation of the city's transport system during the competition. The medals have already been stamped, torches for the Olympic relay have been developed and produced.
These torches have recently attracted special attention. The fact is that their creator, Barber Osgerby, received the prestigious Design of the Year award 2012 for his work. And this is the most authoritative design competition in the world!
The Olympic torch for the London Games is an elongated mesh aluminum structure. Each of these items (and there are several thousand of them in total) has eight thousand holes, symbolizing the number of torchbearers who will take part in the Olympic torch relay.
Thanks to these design solutions (aluminum and mesh structure), the Olympic torch is very lightweight, which will allow it to be carried by both women and even children.
The Olympic torch relay itself will begin 70 days after the opening of the London Olympics, and its route will pass through the whole of Great Britain, through the most interesting places of this country, such as Cardiff Castle, Giant's Bridge, Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, York Minster, etc. This race will end on July 27 in London at the Olympic Stadium.
