In Japanese, the words "sun" and "chrysanthemum" are homonyms. Perhaps that is why the paintings Fuco Ueda, which depict girls' faces surrounded by these marvelous flowers, are literally flooded with light, full of bright "sunny" colors.
Fouko Ueda is a thirty-year-old Japanese illustrator who has achieved worldwide fame for her exquisite work. Since the early 2000s, she has repeatedly won prizes in many fine arts competitions in her homeland, and has also taken part in international exhibitions held in Tokyo, Los Angeles, Seattle, New York and other cities.
On March 29 this year, a solo exhibition of Foucault Ueda's works began at the Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. Many critics point out that her paintings are characterized by ambivalence: they are both shocking and serene at the same time. The fantastic world created by the artist's fantasy is filled with beauty, light and darkness, loneliness and friendship, emptiness and generosity coexist in it.
It is significant that the artist turns to the image of chrysanthemums - the oldest symbol of Japanese culture. In addition to being the emblem of emperors in the Land of the Rising Sun, locals believe that it brings prosperity and longevity. Looking at the paintings of Foucault Ueda, one involuntarily recalls Akhmatov's lines: “I say now with the words of those Who are born in the soul only once, A bee buzzes on a white chrysanthemum, The old sachet smells so stuffy”. Perhaps everything is so, only the artist tries to avoid snow-white mourning chrysanthemums, in her palette there are only bright cheerful colors.

Broken heels, crumpled sheets, unfinished wine: Controversial paintings by a Japanese artist about a woman's share
The paintings by Japanese artist Tomona Matsukawa are filled with sadness, longing and nostalgia. She creates an atmosphere where tired girls, whose faces are hidden by a veil of hair or the "shadow" of hands, plunge into melancholy, forgetting about everything in the world, and old things and decrepit objects, turning into storytellers, tell about people who throughout of life, in contact with them, they left a part of themselves as a keepsake in the form of red shoes with knocked down heels or a trace of lipstick
