Every week magazine National Geographic tells colorful stories about distant countries and interesting events, beautiful landscapes, plants and animals, unusual people and traditions. Today's stories are the best in the last week January 28 - February 03.
28 January
Texas National Park Brazos Bend State Park is famous for its huge population of alligators and crocodiles, for which a lot of people come here. Admire the toothy predators, tickle the nerves by watching their feeding, bathing, walking. A wonderful picture of a female alligator and her two babies, who are sunbathing, sitting on their mother's head, in the literal sense of the word, was taken in one of the ponds of a Texas park.

Photographers have to sacrifice a lot when hunting for the best shots. And most often - with your own time, convenience and sleep. So, this bear turned out to be the only clubfoot that appeared in the photographer's field of view on that very night in the forests of Finland. For this picture, the author had to spend more than 16 hours in a secluded place.

Meerkats have one peculiarity: sometimes they freeze, as if freezing in place, and then it seems that the animal fell into a coma or plunged into a hypnotic trance. In fact, he is a real apathetic phlegmatic.

Port Blair in the Andaman Islands is a paradise for birds, especially pigeons. Every morning people come to the shore to feed these birds, which are no longer afraid of the presence of humans, they even happily greet visitors. Every day, real manna from heaven falls on the doves, however, in the form of 22 pounds of grain.

A young Mennonite girl watches from a window as her steam train arrives at Kitchener Waterloo Station, Ontario, Canada. The childishly open, naive photo was taken in October 2012, but it looks as if it exists outside of time and is always relevant.
02 february
One of the most popular attractions in New York is the sculpture of Christopher Columbus at Columbus Circle. Every day on the street in front of her a long line of people wishing to admire the sculpture is lined up. The rest are proud of what they have already seen.
03 february
Not everyone is destined to witness how a butterfly is born, how it turns from a pupa into a majestic, fragile, beautiful insect. The author of this photo, who picked up a monarch butterfly chrysalis on a piece of tree bark on the farm, became one of the eyewitnesses of this rare phenomenon, and photographed the first seconds of the butterfly after its transformation.
