The debate about how self-sufficient form and content are in a literary work is as eternal as the notorious debate about which came first - the egg or the chicken. But a talented contemporary artist Math monahan went even further: he showed that the material form in the book can by no means be inferior to the content. At least its aesthetic value book installations indisputable.
Of course, few people can be surprised by book sculptures to popularize reading today. Miler Lagos, Guy Larami - there are a lot of names of masters who construct unusual figures from books read. However, the work of Math Monahan cannot be confused with anything, since his works are distinguished by an extraordinary approach.
Math Monahan presented a book installation called "Between" in the library of the University of Michigan. The installation includes two compositions from books installed in different parts of the reading room, in this original way the author wanted to show that between the tables with these unusual sculptures there is a special space that unites people.
Readers should appreciate the books not only as literary works, but also as an art installation. The design, created by Math Monahan, amazes with its airiness and intricate interweaving of pages. The installation looks very fragile, and there is a feeling that the sheets are about to straighten out, and the volumes will acquire their usual appearance. It is noteworthy that to create these wonderful weaves, Math Monahan did not use any additional means: there are no paper clips or glue … The author himself notes that books resembling flower petals are gradually "blooming", but in this he sees the zest of his work, because over time, sooner or later, everything returns to normal.
