Auguste Rodin, speaking about the process of creating sculptures, explained that he takes a block of marble and cuts off everything unnecessary from it. Looking at how he creates his masterpieces Italian artist Ernestina Gallina, it seems that she takes an ordinary river stone and … finishes all the missing. As a result, unsightly pebbles turn into cute animals, literally coming to life before our eyes.
Ernestina began to show her creative abilities from childhood, although her parents were not particularly involved in the development of the girl's talent. She never attended art school, she learned everything on her own. A quarter of a century ago, the Italian woman moved with her family to Nairobi (Kenya), where the unknown world of African flora and fauna opened up for her. Later, while reviewing books in the library, Ernestina came across a book about rock art, she was intrigued by how simple stones found at the bottom of a river can become a real work of art, inspired by nature itself. The technique of painting on stones allows the artist to combine a passion for art with a love for wildlife.
For several years Ernestina Gallina has been honing her skills in this unusual form of art, in 2003 she even founded the first art studio in Italy for painting stones, the Rock Painting Club. Here she teaches the ability to work with such an unusual material, using acrylic paints to create incredibly beautiful "living" stones. By the way, the artist's works are in great demand at exhibitions of contemporary art; they are also bought with pleasure by private collectors.
