Charming animals and monsters that the American sculptor is interested in Randy Hand, would decorate any "Glade of fairy tales". Children like them, and this is not surprising - the sculptor managed to preserve in himself the childlike spontaneity and passion for knowledge.
Hand, by his own admission, has been interested in drawing and sculpture since early childhood. "Then a pencil and a piece of paper were enough for me to release everything that came to life in my imagination", - says the artist, - "Then, as a child, I learned to understand and appreciate nature."
The idea to sculpt small cartoon animals was born to Hand as an adult, after a long search for his calling. “I grabbed at everything - drawing, painting, and so on - until I finally discovered what I really have a heart for,” says Hand. Hand sent the first few sculptures as a gift to his parents living in Colorado. They took them to the nearest souvenir shop, and so the sculptor suddenly realized that there was a demand for the fruits of his work.
Hand has several sculptures on a larger scale. Among them, for example, a giant turtle named George. Most likely, the name alludes to the famous story of Lonely George - the last representative of one of the rare species of Galapagos turtles, who died in 2012 at the age of one hundred years without giving birth.
Hand is not the only sculptor drawn to cartoon characters. You can remember at least Ray Lin, who is fond of sculpting the busts of the heroes of the series "Futurama".
Hand, however, managed to develop a special style for which there was a steady demand. So, among the latest projects of Hand - a cycle of sculptures for one of the recreation parks on the Hawaiian island Kauai … So far, the sculptor has posted a photo of only one of the characters on the Internet - an ostrich. As Hand explains, "Put together, the sculptures will illustrate a funny story."
