What is the fate old telephone directories? Someone throws them away immediately after buying new, more relevant ones. Someone does not understand why they continue to keep them on their shelves. And here is the sculptor Long-Bin Chen creates quite unusual out of these printed materials sculptures.
With the development of the Internet, mobile technologies and social networks, telephone directories have ceased to carry the huge communication meaning that they carried before. It was a couple of decades ago that they were the main database of people in a particular city. Nowadays, few people use them. Maybe people in phone booths and artists of all stripes.
The latter include the designer No Jolis Paons, who created a series of paper dresses from old telephone directories, artist Alex Queral, who makes portraits from them, and a sculptor named Long-Bin Chen who turns directories into sculptures.
This is the last one that will be discussed today. Long-Bin Chen has been creating sculptures from old telephone directories for two decades. At first he bought them in stores at full price, but now he has established direct contact with publishers who resell unsold copies of their already outdated reference products to him for a pittance.
The essence of the creative method used by Long-Bin Chen is quite simple. This sculptor glues together several telephone directories, thus creating something like a lump of material, from which he subsequently, with the help of scissors, knives and a special electric saw, carves the sculptures he conceived.
Most often, busts of ordinary people come out from under the knife and scissors of Long-Bin Chen. But he pays special attention to religion. An example is a series of Buddha images that the sculptor made from old telephone directories.

Sheep from telephone wires. Sculptures by Jean Luc Cornec
It seems that in the herd of creative lambs, created by the hands of master sculptors, there is a replenishment. But this time they are made of telephone wires, and the main "shepherd" is Jean-Luc Cornec
