Prophet Muhammad was sure that the best deed in the life of every Muslim is hajj … it one of the largest religious pilgrimagesduring which the believers go to Mecca (Saudi Arabia). This year, the sacred land was visited by about 3.4 million Muslims from all over the world, taking part in ritual activities. According to the teachings of Islam, the Hajj must be performed at least once in a lifetime by every believer who has such an opportunity.
The ritual performances of the Hajj include four pillars, the fulfillment of which is mandatory for pilgrims. Having acquired the intention to perform the Hajj, the believer must go to Mecca, where he makes seven rounds around the Kaaba, then visit Mount Arafat and jog between the hills of al-Safa and al-Marwa.
The visit to Mount Arafat is due to the fact that at this place, according to legends, there was a meeting between Adam and Hava (Eve), expelled from paradise, as well as the prophet Ibrahim, who was to sacrifice his son to Allah. However, the Most High, having tested the faith of the prophet, resisted the sacrifice. Thus, Allah indicated that he did not need bloody sacrifices.
After visiting Mount Arafat, the pilgrims go to the Mina Valley, where they throw seven stones to symbolize the expulsion of Satan. Muslims mentally devote themselves to Allah, casting out demons from their lives. In the Mina valley, they perform another ritual act: they cut their hair and shorten their beards (women are allowed to cut only a strand), after which they bury their hair right there.
Returning home, the hajji wears a green turban and long white clothes to symbolize the pilgrimage. Relatives and friends arrange festivities for their return.
