From June 27 to July 3, the Austrian Bodypainting Festival was held - one of the largest events of this level in the world. The imagination and skill of talented artists temporarily turn ordinary people into fantastic creatures. Bright drawings on the body plus fabulous hats - this is the recipe for a global art show, which annually attracts hundreds of participants and tens of thousands of spectators.
The Austrian Bodypainting Festival was first held in 1998. Then it was necessary to organize something funny and interesting in order to attract tourists to the commune of Seeboden. Why not a bodypainting festival? The art show did its job, and this year the event boosted the economy of another small but very picturesque village - Pörchach.
For the 13th time, the art show has gathered fans of body painting. This year the event was attended by 200 creative teams representing more than 40 nations. Tens of thousands of spectators watched the celebration of the human body and imagination. Many of them specially come to Austria every year to appreciate the skill of leather artists.
The gathering of bodypainting connoisseurs lasts a week, and the first 4 days there are many seminars and master classes (they are arranged by the Academy of the World Festival). This year there were more than 30 such events. The remaining 3 days the artists draw and compete with each other. There are enough categories for this. Participants compete in the use of a brush and a sponge, airbrush and the ability to create special effects.
At night, there is a drawing competition using fluorescent paint. The UV glowing bodypainting is really worth seeing. As well as in contests where they make spectacular makeup and the faces of models are literally painted under Khokhloma.
In addition to the skill in drawing, the ability of artists to hide parts of the body that are not intended for public viewing is also assessed.
