CDs, which were very common a few years ago, very quickly turned from the main means of disseminating digital information into unnecessary garbage that wasted space on the shelves. Someone throws them away, having copied the data to other media a long time ago, and someone uses them for various purposes. The latter include, for example, Bruce Munrowho recently created from these disks a hundred giant water lilies … British artist Bruce Munroe is already known to regular readers of the Culturology. Recently, his new similar work appeared, in which he created a huge number of "water lilies" from an outdated information carrier.
The installation LIGHT, created by Bruce Munro for Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania, features a hundred giant artificial "water lilies" floating on the surface of a reservoir.
Moreover, each of these "water lilies" is equipped with an LED that turns on in the dark. And on the shore, not far from the place where this installation is located, there are speakers in which music is constantly playing. And needless to say that the glow intensity of LED-lamps and their color directly depends on the melody that sounds?
All in all, this installation by Bruce Munroe was created from more than 60 thousand old CDs collected by the author from warehouses of electronics stores.
The purpose of this installation, according to Bruce Munro himself, is the author's desire to bring positivity to this world, to awaken the best emotions in visitors to Longwood Gardens, to make them smile and feel happy. After all, what could be better than walking in the park on a warm evening, listening to wonderful music and admiring the light show at the same time?
