Many people look gloomily at the future and do not expect anything good from it, but not all of them are able to translate their views into a creative act, as some writers, artists and directors have done. The talented sculptor Greg Brotherton is one of those who were able to do this. His sculptures from various industrial junk show the world of emptiness, oppression and slavery.
Greg was a very bad student at school, which is why his parents constantly punished him with house arrest, during which he was obliged to read books. Among the books he read at that time, among others, were the works of Orwell, Kafka and Russian science fiction writers. According to Greg, these things greatly influenced him, falling in tune with his then moods, after which a gloomy look at the world around him and the future never left him.
Finding himself in art, he began to create works saturated with fear of a future full of hard work, alienation, hardship, suffering and unhappiness. His sculptures are figures performing meaningless actions in complete isolation from the outside world, with which the author wants to point people to the problems of modern society, where people, at times, seem to be chained to their work and the need to survive.
Suffering in their other worlds, his characters serve as metaphors for a society not so far from ours. Created from useless junk, they are both gears in the machine of oppression, which is the social system of their fictional world, and silent heroes in their hard work and resilience.
