But rarely is there a chance to write about the appearance of a new holiday - especially such a large-scale one as Independence Day … Meanwhile, a few days ago, on July 9, the list of days of independence was replenished. A new people was born, a new African country - South Sudan.
Birth of South Sudan flowed in blood and agony. The new country was "conceived" back in the days of British colonization. It was then that the colonialists laid the foundation for future strife: North Sudan was predominantly an Islamic country (due to Turkish influence). And the South was specially Christianized and protected from Islam: the British ruled here. As a result, the two historical regions became increasingly alien to each other.
Sudan's first "birth pains" (First Civil War) lasted from 1955 to 1972. The second - from 1983 to 2005. Millions of people died in the wars, the country plunged into hunger and devastation. The southerners finally got tired of the intolerance of the northern regions that imposed Islam, and in 2011, 98 percent of them voted for independence - after the pantheons of both countries were fairly replenished with dead heroes.
July 9 The 193rd country joined the United Nations, and the international community welcomed it with joy, because the gap between North and South Sudan ended the civil war. Yesterday Russia announced its readiness to establish diplomatic relations with South Sudan. If you have a political globe, please note that a new state has appeared in the middle of Africa.
Inhabitants South Sudan inherited huge problems: disease, humanitarian crisis and minefields instead of wheat. But there is something good: for example, good oil reserves. And most importantly - optimism and determination to follow its own historical path.
The whole of South Sudan is celebrating for the fourth day, fireworks and sings songs - and the North, probably too. Only dissatisfied generals who were not allowed to fight properly - well, to hell with them!
