When Alice, chasing the rabbit, fell into the hole, she flew so long that she began to wonder if she would fly through the Earth in this way. As we know, it did not fly. But the German company Topotek1, engaged in landscape design, still created big hole in the land with the name The big digdirectly connected with various objects on the other side of the planet from its location.
Recently, in the middle of one of the parks in the Chinese city of Xi'an, there is a huge hole with rounded edges overgrown with neatly trimmed grass. This hole has a diameter of several meters, and it is not clear how deep it goes into the ground. To prevent people walking in this park from falling inside, a glass fence is installed around this incomprehensible object.
No, this is not the failure of a karst cave located under the park, and not the result of the action of moles, hares or any other animals. No one in this place has drilled the earth, trying to get to the minerals, or dug a well. This huge hole was created by the German company Topotek1 specifically for the International Horticultural Exhibition, which is taking place these days in the city of Xi'an.
Of course, this artificial "big hole" (this is how the name The Big Dig is translated) has a bottom located at a depth of about five meters. But the bottom does not limit it and, in essence, The Big Dig hole communicates with several places located on the other side of planet Earth in relation to China.
Namely, from this giant burrow you can hear the mooing of cows grazing in the Argentine pampas, the sound of trains rushing along the rails in the New York subway, the coastal noise on the embankment in Stockholm or the city din on the streets of Berlin. All these sounds are included in turn and broadcast live over the Internet.
Never before has the Chinese city of Xi'an been so close to the Western World, New York, Berlin and Stockholm, as during this horticultural exhibition!
