Visitors to the Church of St. Michael in the Belgian city of Leuven must have noted the fact that this structure lacks such a traditional element as a dome. Guys from the creative tandem Gijs van vaerenbergh by installation "The Upside Dome" tried to rectify the situation, but they did it in a rather strange way: the structure ended up inside the church - light, weightless and, as the name implies, turned upside down.
“The installation sheds light on the architecture of one of the most significant Baroque churches in the Lower Lands from a modern perspective. With the help of the catenary technique, a new structure was created in the church. "The Upside Dome" is a full-scale model, created from hundreds of meters of chains, which literally and figuratively is a copy of an unfinished dome, "the authors say. The installation time frame is from September 4 to October 31, 2010.
St. Michael's Church is one of the main attractions of Leuven. Its construction was completed in 1671, but in 1944, during the Second World War, the building was almost completely destroyed: only the facade survived. Subsequently, the church was restored, and now it is considered one of the "seven wonders of Leuven."
Gijs Van Vaerenbergh are two young architects Pieterjan Gijs (1983) and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh (1983). The authors work together on various projects, but pay particular attention to installations in public places.

Why is there only one station in the Omsk metro and what happens inside
Anyone who first came to Omsk and does not know anything about this city, having seen the entrance to the metro with the corresponding logo, the letter "M", will certainly want to ride in the subway. However, despite the endless stream of people (some come in, others come out), there is no subway here. The fact is that only one metro station was built in Omsk, while the rest did not have time to open. To date, there are no plans to complete the subway. Therefore, the townspeople use the metro station "Library named after Pushkin"
10 strange things found inside ancient statues
Ancient statues themselves are considered some of the most interesting artifacts from the distant past. And it happens that other relics are found in them: scrolls, letters, money or other items of historical significance. Such finds are often completely unexpected and strange, since no one could even expect to find something similar inside and could not have imagined that the creators of these works of art could think of such a thing
Christian analogues of Old Church Slavonic holidays, or why the church could not defeat Maslenitsa and Ivan Kupala
Christianity, introduced in Russia by Prince Vladimir in 988, actually put an end to the development of the solar cult. For a long time the new religion could not oust the remnants of paganism from the consciousness of the people. Some Slavs remained faithful to Dazhdbog, Khors and Perun, others - mixed the two faiths, "merging" their gods with Christian saints, and still others worshiped brownies. Such a term as dual faith appeared, with which the clergy fought for a long time. To "erase" the ancient Slavic traditions, church and St
