Young ambitious artist Molly Crabapple from New York decided to celebrate her 28th birthday in a very peculiar way. On her Facebook page, blog and personal site, she announced that she was going to spend five days in a voluntary confinement in a New York hotel, alone with huge sheets of paper and drawing tools. The art project was named Week in Hell, and his main idea was to check how the artist feels when he is cut off from his usual habitat, and how fruitfully he can work in such conditions. Molly Crabapple covered walls and windows, doors and doorways, mirrors and even a TV in a rented hotel room with white sheets of paper. As soon as she woke up and drank coffee, she started painting, and the whole process was filmed by Keith Jenson, and the photographs were taken by Steve Prue. Subsequently, the received photo and video materials of the Week in Hell art project formed the basis of a small film about contemporary art.

Molly Crabapple drew whatever she wanted with black marker on white paper. The girl is sure that the most interesting ideas come to the artist's head precisely when he improvises, without getting hung up on specific plots, not forcing himself to portray what is expected of you, but follow the paths where fantasies lead. Therefore, when asked what exactly she would paint, the artist answered "something incredible and crazy." And so it happened: fantastic animals, amazing plants, fairy-tale characters coexist with otherworldly, gloomy, gothic plots. Perhaps the theme of the drawing depended on the mood of the artist, or maybe it's all about the irrepressible imagination of a creative person who voluntarily imprisoned himself within four walls in order to devote himself entirely to drawing. Fortunately, only for five days.

It is curious that the financing of this project was undertaken by the artist's friends, as well as fans of contemporary art and patrons of the arts. Molly Crabapple thanked those who helped her financially with personal drawings created in captivity, and even invited the most generous to lunch with a glass of absinthe.
