Winter is the time of winter art. Of course, painting and literature cannot be winter. But the sculpture is quite! And the largest in the world ice sculpture festival takes place annually in the Chinese city of Harbin.
The city of Harbin has already appeared on the pages of the site Kulturologia. Ru … Last year we wrote about a sculpture created from beer foam by a craftsman from this three million metropolis. Today we will tell you about a larger event that takes place there every year, or rather every winter - the Ice Sculpture Festival.
China is the world's largest country in terms of population. And in this large country, everything happens in a big way! The largest cities in the world, the most developed network of the fastest railways appeared there. China's economy will soon become the largest economy in the world. And even the ice sculpture festival there is the largest of its kind on the planet!
This festival takes place annually, and begins on January 5. True, if the weather permits (outside temperatures for a long time), then the unofficial opening occurs earlier.
The best ice carvers from all over China come to this event. Moreover, the scale of their work is truly enormous! After all, they cut out not only ice sculptures, but entire buildings of the original design or repetitive forms of famous buildings in China and the world.
So for the duration of the Festival, a whole ice city appears on the site where it takes place, with streets lined with ice buildings and elements of urban decor (sculptures, stairs, vegetation, etc.) And all this, of course, is made exclusively of ice! Moreover, when creating these amazing works, only ice from the Songhua River, flowing within Harbin, is used. And, melting, this material again finds itself in the river.
In order to make the works of the participants of the Harbin Ice Sculpture Festival look even more impressive, LED and laser colored lights turn on at night, which turns the venue of this event into a real fairyland!
