Self-taught artist Gavin Worth first became interested in metal wire and its expressive abilities after seeing the bent structures of Alexander Calder - the author of the first kinetic sculptures - mobiles. Since visiting Calder's exhibit, Gavin Worth has created a series of metal wire silhouettes of his own and has learned to convey meaning with just one outline.
Gavin Worth was born in Zimbabwe, lived in the United States, and now got a job in Egypt. For a long time he was associated with Shakespeare festivals: he is an actor by education, but, in addition, he was both a musician and a graphic designer. In general, 30-year-old Gavin Worth is a self-taught and handyman, including in the part of wire sculpture.
Gavin Worth deals only with the outlines of objects, so his metal wire sculptures are devoid of small details, and the viewer's attention is focused on the main thing. Silhouettes are also good because they can be placed on any background and thus change the color of the wire picture. The sculptor claims that the mood of his work changes depending on the lighting in the room: the brighter, the more fun.

People and animals made of metal wire. The crumbling sculptures of Tomohiro Inaba
Considering the abstract or surrealistic works of artists and designers that we write about on Culturology.ru, many readers express the opinion that the authors of these works are mentally ill, and that is why the plots of their paintings or installations are so dark, eerie and strange.
