I remember that every little girl wanted her to have a Barbie doll, a petite fashionable girl, her boyfriend Ken, a petite stylish guy, and to them - a real palace with a lot of rooms, in which everything is exactly the same as in life. Only small. Urban sculptures that have been made by an American artist for many years Alan Wolfson, are somewhat reminiscent of doll houses. Only they are much more realistic - from the doorknob to the ashtray on the table, from the attic to the basement steps. If you look at the photographs, it seems as if they were taken by a tourist who first came to America and strolled the city streets of New York, filming bars and gas stations, cinemas and eateries on the corner, strip clubs and telephone booths, cinemas and restaurants. And it is very difficult to believe that this is all - pictures of those very hyper-realistic models of street buildings, skillful sculptures, the author of which is Alan Wolfson.
The author makes all the decorations so carefully that it seems that if there were tiny people, they could successfully live in sculptures-models. So, Alan Wolfson not only reproduces in miniature all the signs and photographs on the walls, tables, chairs, showcases and even dishes and garbage cans, but also makes electrical wiring in mini-houses, so that in the evenings lights are lit in buildings, signs and showcases are illuminated lights, and street lights look well, just like real ones.
It takes up to three months of work for the master to make one such model, which is preceded by a thorough study of the object down to the smallest details of the interior. The author does not forget anything, even reproduces broken glass, a broken telephone booth on the corner, an overturned cup on the bar, and even rubbish by the curb. A series of mini-sculptures from American streets is called Canal street, and you can get a closer look at all the layouts on Alan Wolfson's website.
