Park, carousel and horse racing - what common? We have already written about the big races in Siena and about the crazy races in Baltimore - and which races can be called the most absurd and ridiculous in the world? Probably those in which the participants riding a carousel in the parksitting on wooden horses. But who would ever think of organizing such a race? Known to whom - art-flashmob group Improv Everywhere!
The place of the new action of the cheerful Improv Everywhere team was Bryant park - the one where the massive rally with the participation of bad good skater Kenny Moir took place in winter. In summer, on a day off, there are also hundreds of people here, and many of them are parents. While mothers and fathers are resting and talking, the kids sit on the horses on the carousel. And then … a little jockey joins them, business commentators sit at round tables and announce: " Welcome to Bryant Park, the 143rd Bryant Park Stakes Race!".
A lot of gamblers, fans, bugs with "the most faithful rumors about who will win" under the leadership of a barbel-bookmaker gathered near the carousel in the park. Of course, everyone is a mobber actor.
Charlie Todd, the founder and idea behind Improv Everywhere, came up with this performance six years ago. As he admits, at first he counted on 12 jockeys. But he was frightened off by the difficulties with the costumes. And then - bingo! - why not shift the attention from the jockey to the children? As a result, the business was limited to one rider, and the kids, unexpectedly for themselves, became participants in the competition.
One of the absurd goals carousel races in the park was to show the futility of competition and rivalry: isn't it better to just enjoy life?
It is significant that the "professional" jockey carousel races nothing broke off. The most ordinary boy won the races in Bryant Park: apparently, his wooden horse ate sawdust well. Excited reporters gathered around the winner and asked the traditional question: "How do you feel after winning?" “Okay,” the surprised boy replied and smiled the smile of a champion.
