American photographer Phil Borges orthodontist by education. But he devoted more than 25 years of his life to photography. Mostly people. The portraits of Phil Borges are valuable not only for the high-quality and talented work of a specialist, but first of all for the fact that the photographer seeks to show the public the personality of the character, and not to present him as "one of" the representatives of one or another circle of people. An art project is very indicative in this regard. Tibetan Portrait: The Power of Compassion- for him, Phil Borges, choosing endangered cultures and speakers of rare languages as his goal, took a series of pictures Tibetans … The emphasis is on the eyes, in the center of attention is the facial expression, every dash, every wrinkle of the character, since it is in them that the emotions are, it is in them that the person's personality is. Therefore, all portraits of Phil Borges are as sharp and clear as possible, taken from close range, so that the viewer feels as if a living person is standing in front of him here and now.
Unlike other photographers, Phil Borges tries to make the country recognize its heroes, for which he signs the names of his models under each picture, and also accompanies them with small stories. For example, one of the most popular photographs in the Tibetan series is the photograph of two sisters, eight-year-old Jigme and one and a half-year-old Sonam. They live in a family of nomads, where there is not a single mirror, so when the eldest, Jigme, saw herself in the photograph, she got scared and ran away to her tent house on the Tibetan plateau with a cry. The girl first saw herself from the outside, and for her it was a significant shock.
And the four-year-old little Pemba, who arrived in the Ladakh village of Trak-Tok with her mother and sister, attracted the photographer's attention by watching the dance festival, a traditional event in December, as if enchanted, without ever moving. Even the piercing icy wind that raged on this sunny, but frosty day did not make the little one distract from the spectacle.
Phil Borges's amazing photographs have brought him popularity and resounding fame all over the world, his works are published in separate collections and become the covers of such famous magazines as Esquire. You can get acquainted with the work of maestro Borges on his personal website.
