New York … We are used to seeing this city in a completely different way. We know him as noisy, energetic and lively, where life does not stop even at night. And it is very difficult, almost unrealistic to imagine the city of the Big Apple as peaceful, quiet and lifeless. And here comes the artist Alex Lukas, who makes us look at the metropolis in a completely different light, imagining it destroyed, dead and drowning in the waters of the ocean.
It is difficult to imagine a darker and more frightening theme than the image of completely flooded cities that have sunk under the water. It's hard to say whether the artist of these paintings depicts our near future, or he just likes to paint a flood. But be that as it may, looking at the paintings of the American artist Alex Lucas, a feeling of fear settles in the soul.
The landscapes of the sunken New York convey a mystical calmness. Artist Alex Lucas says that while creating his paintings, he tried more to convey certain emotions than to tell a story; his works are more emotional than narrative.
To create his paintings, Alex Lucas uses acrylics, gouache and watercolors. But he draws not on a blank sheet of paper, but on the finished picture. His works are made on aerial photographs depicting urban landscapes, which the artist, quite simply, ripped out of books. This fusion of two types of art in the work of the American artist is his zest, which gives the master's paintings uniqueness and originality.
Alex Lucas was born in Boston and raised and lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His work is predominantly on display in Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Stockholm.
