Portraits are a rather complex art form. But over time, people do not simplify this matter, but, on the contrary, only complicate it! After all, as it turns out, you do not need to be limited to paints and pencils at all.
We have already mentioned the artists who paint a simple blue pen, and also talked about the portrait of Barack Obama, made from sand … Of course, there are still a lot of materials at hand, and we have not yet talked about many things, but today we will go a little further than a ballpoint pen and sand. An artist from Tirana (Albania) Saimir Strati decided to go the other way. He decided to reproduce the famous self-portrait of Leonardo da Vinci, but, as you might guess, not with brushes and paints. In his work, he used … nails! He took a 2x4m board, 400 kilograms of nails (the number of pieces, sorry, is not reported) and began to create!
At first, the picture was simply painted, and then nails were driven into it. Facial features and shadows are due to the fact that nails were driven in at different angles, some deep, others not. This technology is somewhat reminiscent of digital photography, where each nail is equal to a pixel. Incredibly, the portrait is really very, very similar to the original - take a look at the photos! The portrait even got into the Guinness Book of Records, because it is the largest painting in the world, created, "painted" with nails. Of course, to say that the job is daunting is to say nothing. Here, ordinary painting will seem to be just the simplest thing. Still, there you can choose the color, and everything depends only on you. Here, there is only one type of material, and there is no question of color. Everything is created through the play of light and shadow, as well as the depth of driving in the nails.
Idea belongs to Saimir Strati
