Opened in February 2013 in a boutique Bait in the city of San Francisco, an exhibition is dedicated to one of the most popular video games of the late 1980s - "Street fighter" (Street fighter). "Fighter", as it turned out, not only influenced the development of the gaming industry, but also gave many representatives of contemporary art food for thought.
The first game of the cycle Street fighter was released for arcade machines in 1987; it was developed by Takashi Nishiyama and Hiroshi Matsumoto, along with other Capcom programmers. The main character of the game - a Japanese named Ryu - had to fight back in one-on-one fights against opponents from five countries of the world. The appearance of the protagonist and his colorful enemies will forever be remembered by children of several generations, and now, to appreciate the creativity of some of them, one of the game developers has personally arrived in San Francisco.
According to the organizers of the exhibition, from the very first day it began to enjoy tremendous success. Visitors literally run their eyes: within the framework of one exposition, paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, toys, united by one motive, but made in the most diverse stylistics are presented.
Many contemporary artists - it is worth remembering at least Gilliam Raymond and Florent Aygu - inspired by the aesthetics and designs of vintage video games. Young talents, whose names are heard by specialists in the field of modern art, also took part in the Bite boutique project: Jerome Lu, Kwestone, Kidokyo other. It looks like a new chapter is starting in the glorious history of the classic arcade game.
