When we hear the word "shadow", we usually imagine a dark silhouette appearing on a surface due to an object falling between this surface and a light source. This understanding is correct, but too common for a creative person. As an alternative, we can offer the understanding of the shadow by the Greek photographer Vangelis Paterakis: in his works, shadows live their own life, forming a reality that we often do not even suspect.
Vangelis created his first project dedicated to shadows in 2008. These photographs, transferred to aluminum sheets, were very popular with the public, so the author decided to continue his experiments in this area. As a result, a second project was born - "Shadow Life", where Vangelis Paterakis continues "to seek bodies that give life to new figures and shadows." The blurred figures in the author's photographs are not just shadows, optical phenomena. These are creatures living in a world imperceptible to humans. These are our thoughts and emotions. Or maybe they are even our souls.
According to the author himself, "Shadow Life" is a transition from precise art to the art of feelings and moods. From 2 to 9 May 2010, the photographs will be available for viewing at an exhibition at The Met Hotel (Thessaloniki).
Vangelis Paterakis was born and raised in Piraeus, the main port city of Greece. His most famous works are photographs of hotel interiors in Greece and abroad. From the very beginning of his career as a professional photographer, Vangelis has worked closely with major advertising agencies, publishing houses and magazines.
