Korean sculptor Gwon Osang creates extraordinary three-dimensional masterpieces from 300 photographs with which he covers human-sized mannequins. Osang graduated from Hong-ik University with a degree in sculpture, since then he is considered one of the most successful contemporary artists in Korea, known for his unusual approach to sculpture.
Looking with the naked eye, it seems that Osang's sculptures are made of ceramics, if you get closer, the illusion immediately unfolds. Gwon's photographic sculptures require a thorough and voluminous procedure to create a patchwork photographic density of a person.
The statues of Gwon Osang are unique in their own way, for which the artist uses photographs to depict the appearance of his model, including the face, hair and clothes. Gwon's skills as a sculptor and photographer help him sculpt beautiful statues with photorealistic and surreal qualities.
Gwon's models are usually depicted in common poses. It explores how a person can express different opinions in different contexts through their gestures and expressions.
Gwon Osang lives and works in Korea, his work is exhibited at Arario Gallery, Korea. Photographic sculptures have already been seen in China, Denmark, France, Italy, Japan and the Netherlands.
